Januari Sacrifice/Januariblot

Publicerad 2015-02-01 23:58:00 i Allmänt, Feast, Sacrifice,

Yesterday was awesome!

We got early to Äppelgården to cook the Vikingfood for the feast, there were containers with bloody calf hearts, whole chickens, cheese, leeks, herbs, turnips, bread and so on. Most of the recipies were found in or inspired by "An Early Meal". Me, Jessica, Dag and Micke started out with the food while Rikard was finishing his Thorsberg trousers. Since Nellie was ill she was placed in the coutch, but lycky for us she managed to bake the lovely curdled bread earlier this week before the germs got her. I had a really great time and it was fun to get to know Jessica who I have only met a few times in Lund.

Luckily the only fail of the day was me forgetting to put back the memory card in my Canon, so I had to use my phone instead.

Micke watching Jessica making the filled hearts ready for the oven (they where later placed on the bbq).

The hearts with souce for basting and pork rinds to add flavour.

Meanwhile me and Dag gave the chickens a hard time. We filled them up and put filling under the skin before Dag sew them shut. It almost felt like a horror comedy...

When most of the guests had arrived Rikard, Victor and Micke began the outdoors activities in the paddock, throwing rope loops and fighting in the snowy weather while we were finishing in the kitchen. Just as we were done the hungry and cold vikings took their seats.

Here is the feast:

Sourdough bread, curdled bread(with nuts, seeds and dryed fruit), cream cheese and honey.

split pea soup, roasted calf heart, souce(on lingonberries, honey and leek), Smoked hungarian delicacies with alu laukar(sauce), filled roasted chicken, buttered turnips and lingonberries.

Apple frumenty with blackberries, walnuts, wheat and honey.

Between the main corse and the dessert we went up to the pond to sacrife. It was really atmospheric to walk up in the pastures, with snow falling and torches in our hands while a herd of Icelandic horses watched from a distance.

I reaIy want to thank everyone involved for a wonderful weekend and I already look forward to host the next sacrifice!
